MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. An MRI is a safe method of providing highly detailed pictures of anatomy and pathology for medical diagnosis of many conditions, without the use of harmful x-rays.

Q. Why would I need an MRI?
MRI scans are used to diagnose internal conditions and to monitor the effects of certain treatments and medications. The MRI is an excellent way for your doctor to examine your brain, neck, spinal cord and soft tissues. MRI is used to detect:

Plaques and blockages in the blood vessels
Damage to (and infection of) bones and joints
Chronic central nervous system disorders
Brain tumors
Strokes
Functional disorders in organs including: liver, pancreas, kidney and spleen

Q. What if I have a larger build or can't tolerate closed spaces?
The GE MRI has a large patient opening for added comfort
You are not completely closed in and can in fact see out of either end of the machine
Our staff will be in constant communication with you throughout the exam
You can choose to receive a mild sedative to help you relax (ask your doctor for details)

Q. Do I need a doctor's referral?
